Overview

Soccer is the powerhouse of UCC athletics.

UCC’s Under 10A, Under 11A, Under 13A and Under 13B teams all won Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) championships in 2011. The varsity team has won CISAA championships in seven of the past eight years.

Phew … That's pretty impressive.

So, what’s our secret? It starts with a Prep program that gives all boys, Grades 4 through 7, a chance to play competitive soccer. With nine teams broken into three tiers, all boys are matched by developmental level.   

To be sure, our Prep teams are of the highest calibre among independent schools in Ontario. But this is because the focus isn’t just on winning; far from it. All boys are encouraged to represent the Prep on representative school teams. Athletics helps boys develop to their full potential. So, to ensure every student gets a chance to participate in a team sport, boys who haven’t been selected for an inter-school team may play on UCC intramural all-star team.

At the Upper School, boys play competitively within their level on Under 14, Under 16 A and B, junior varsity and varsity teams. Each team has two dedicated coaches and the focus is on honing and developing high-level performance. Varsity is the flagship team and focuses on elite soccer playing.

With our excellent facilities (including a seasonal covered field, four grass fields and one artificial turf), UCC also rents its facilities to the Power Soccer School of Excellence which offers boys the chance to improve their skills over the summer.

U13A CAIS National Champions

Kudos to our U13A soccer players on an impressive performance last Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Vancouver's West Point Grey Academy (WPGA) in the CAIS 16-team national tournament. Our team played excellent soccer and displayed great sportsmanship and wonderful team spirit in their eight games, conceding only four goals in the competition. UCC won the semi-final against Crescent and prevailed in the final versus WPGA.
