THE GENERAL PROFICIENCY AWARD
Applicable to all grade levels. This award is given to students achieving a minimum grade in every subject based upon the results of the previous June report. Certificates for Year 1, Year 2, Foundation Year and IB1 are awarded on Prize Day. General Proficiency Scholars who are members of the Leaving Class have their names inscribed in Laidlaw Hall.
THE ACADEMIC TIE
This award is given to students achieving a minimum average based upon the results of the previous June report. The minimum average is determined by the top 5% in each grade. Members of the Leaving Class who qualify for the first time, based on their January IB2 results, are awarded the Academic Tie in February.
THE PRINCIPAL’S LIST
The Principal’s List is revised at the end of each term. It includes students ranking in the top 10% of each grade, based on their sessional averages.
THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S BRONZE MEDAL (IB2)
Awarded to the member of the Leaving Class who has achieved the highest academic standing based on a cumulative average of final percentage grades earned in all OSSD courses coded 3 and 4.
HEAD BOY (IB2)
The title given to the highest-ranking member of the Leaving Class. Selection is based in the first instance on the highest final IB point total. In the case of a tie, additional academic criteria are used to select a single recipient.
THE GRANT MEDAL (IB2)
Awarded to any member of the Leaving Class who achieves the highest final IB point total earned at UCC in a given year.
THE VISITOR’S MEDAL (IB1)
Awarded on Prize Day to the highest-ranking student(s) in IB1.
THE TOM LAWSON PRIZE (Foundation Year)
Awarded on Prize Day to the highest-ranking student in the Foundation Year.
THE CRAIG BALDACHIN AWARD (IB1)
Awarded to the student who has made the greatest academic improvement over the course of the year.
THE CLASS OF ’57 TROPHY (Year 2)
Awarded to the best all-round student in academics and athletics.
