The extra-curricular theatre program at UCC is fully co-curricular, run in conjunction with The Bishop Strachan School (BSS). There are theatre opportunities for students from Year 1 through IB2. Students in the program act, design, build, stage-manage, promote, attend to business matters and, in some cases, direct productions under faculty supervision.
Productions from a wide variety of genres and periods are rehearsed and performed throughout the year. The program has witnessed a variety of musicals, contemporary plays, early 20th century plays, the plays of William Shakespeare and his contemporaries, and Greek tragedies.
Students in the program work with directors from BSS and UCC and participate in workshop and production settings with theatre professionals on skills such as choreography and stage combat, as well as physical and vocal skills. Participants make use of a variety of theatre spaces at the two schools, including the BSS Theatre and the lecture theatre and David Chu Theatre at UCC.
Extra-curricular theatre at UCC runs from early September until late in the academic year. Auditions for shows take place within the first few weeks of school in September.
