Term One

Association Day

Volunteers are needed for the barbecue, Kidzone, Snack Shack, silent auction and more.
Event date: Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013

Volunteers needed: unlimited
Time commitment: two- to three-hour shifts

Boarder Care Packages

At the beginning of the school year, and again in December, the Parents' Organization sponsors care packages for boarders. The boys of Wedd’s House and Seaton’s House look forward to these events with great enthusiasm. Volunteers are needed for assembling and delivering the packages.

Event dates: late August and late November

Volunteers needed: four people
Time commitment: two hours

Festive Marketplace

Volunteers are needed during the day of the event, for set-up the day before the event and take-down on the evening of the event.

New Clothing Sale

Event dates:

Fall Sale (location: David Chu Theatre)

Used Book Collections

This sale is run in conjunction with the new clothing sale. Volunteers are needed for the set-up, sale and dismantling.
Books are collected and returned by the PO to the Canadian School Book Exchange (CSBE). Parents later receive a credit or cheque from the CSBE for a portion of the value remaining in the books that are sold through CSBE (depending on the condition of the books), and the PO receives a commission from CSBE. Books that aren't sold are donated or recycled for charity by CSBE.

Term Three

Spring Arts Festival

The spring arts festival is a celebration of the arts at UCC. Volunteers are needed for set-up, dismantling and during the event.

Used Textbooks and Clothing Intake

Volunteers are needed to help with the intake and sorting of used textbooks and used clothing at the end of the school year.

Full Year Volunteer Positions


The college hosts events where students from out of town are invited to participate. Parent volunteers are needed to billet these students.

Time commitment: one or two nights

College Archives

Volunteers are needed to assist the archivist at the Upper School. The job includes filing, repackaging and some research.

Number of volunteers: three people
Time commitment: two to three hours per week


Parents are needed to help decorate the school for special events.

Volunteers needed: three to four per event
Time commitment: two hours (per event)

Grad Memorabilia

Volunteers are needed to assist with the sale of leaving class rings and frames.

Number of volunteers: five to 10
Time commitment: two hours per event


The Horizons program requires volunteers to work with inner-city children at partner public schools.

Number of volunteers: unlimited
Time commitment: two to three hours per week

House Reps

Each house in each year is represented by a house rep who acts as a liaison between the year rep and the house parents. Each house rep contacts all the house families for their year in September to confirm contact information for PO-related monthly news. The house reps assist the year rep with organizing year-related social activities. House reps attend grade-related school events.

Volunteers needed: generally one per year per house
Time commitment: approximately one meeting per month, plus events


The library coordinator schedules volunteers to work in the Macintosh Library over the course of the school year. Volunteers check in and shelve books and assist the librarian as needed.

Volunteers needed: up to 10 people
Time commitment: two to three hours weekly

Occasional Volunteers

There are always jobs throughout the school year which require a small time commitment. Examples include stuffing envelopes, photo day and helping with the set-up for events.

Volunteers needed: unlimited
Time commitment: an hour or two

The Used Blue Shop (TUBS)/Used Sales

The Used Blues Shop (TUBS) sells used uniform and clothing items and used textbooks throughout the school year. Staffed by volunteer parents, the shop is also the site of the Upper School "Lost and Found."

Year Reps 

Each year is represented by one year rep (IB2 has two representatives). The year rep acts as a liaison between the parent network chairs and the year’s house reps. Separate meetings are held monthly with the parent network chairs, PO advisory and with the year’s house reps. Social events such as coffee mornings and evening socials are organized for their year with the assistance of the house rep.

Time commitment: two meetings per month plus events
